Muscatine Art Center Collection

The permanent collection provides visitors with a wide variety of experiences. Decorative arts, including paperweights, oriental carpets, American art pottery and furniture offer an exciting contrast to works of art by Grant Wood, Mauricio Lasansky, John Mix Stanley, Georgia O’Keeffe, Allan Houser and other noteworthy American artists.

Of particular interest is the Art Center’s Great River Collection which contains paintings, drawings, prints and maps of historical and aesthetic importance illustrating the Mississippi River from its source in Lake Itasca south to New Orleans.

In 1992, the collections were significantly enriched by a gift of twenty-seven works of art by Matisse, Degas, Boudin, Chagall, Renoir, and other European artists. A gift from the estate of Mary Musser Gilmore in honor of her parents, Richard Drew Musser and Sarah Walker Musser, the Gilmore collection is on permanent view in the Musser Museum.

All requests for permission to publish, reproduce or quote material from this collection must be submitted to the Muscatine Art Center at art@ci.muscatine.ia.us.
